IS CINEMA A BANE?

Hereafter, none need lament that cinema has spoiled our nation. You can throw light on them with the help of the following statistics given by the Film Federation of India.

As per the statistics of the above federation, sixty per cent of the Indian populace never visit cinema halls. Is it not a great piece of news to learn about? Forty six per cent of the people who dwell in cities never step into cinema theatre, whereas sixty eight per cent of the people who live in villages turn a blind eye to show blitz. This gives a welcome relief to the hardcore critics of cinema as a whole.

The production of films has registered downward trend. India could produce just twelve thousand and five hundred films in 1999, against its production of thirteen thousand three hundred and fifty five, a decade ago, in 1989.

But the earnings from the films have not gone down. They remain the same as ever. Indian films have collected one billion dollars in the year of 1999. And this figure does not include their collections made in other countries.

Miss World Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra was crowned as 'Miss World' in the beauty pageant recently conducted at London. She had returned to India on December 18, with her head held high, holding aloft the banner of success for our country.

Wheatish complexion, red lips, pearly smile, imposing height and an enamoring body! Priyanka was an embodiment of beauty. She was light-hearted and was light-hearted and was in a happy frame of mind. She moved easily with the reporters during the interview. She didn't put on any superiority avis.

The Indian beauties are known to answer the questions posed to them during the beauty contest, very well. The very next question they yearn for is this:

"Are you willing to act in films?"

The million dollar question was to Priyanka also. Priyanka replied in a composed manner. "Given suitable opportunities I will certainly act in movies. Who would turn down good offers? I have already done a course on theatre. I am prepared to grab my chances in the tinsel world. In fact, I was eagerly expecting this question from you", She said laugh fully. It seems she has already made up her mind.

"Have they selected you as Miss World in order to promote the sales of cosmetics and beauty products?"

Unnerved by this question, she answers back. "Nothing doing. There are no short cuts at all to success in the beauty contests!"

"Will you jump into party polities?"

"No way. Recently I came to know that the Government of Uttar Pradesh has banned the holding of beauty pageants. Had they brought this decision into force at the beginning of the current year itself, I may have lost the chance of becoming a beauty queen at all, that too at the international level". She heaved a sign of relief. When all is said and done, Priyanka's luck holds good.
