Friends and fisticuffs |
It was raining under the roof of Murugalaya Studios. Man has control over the elements at least in film shootings. It rains whenever the director wants. It was a jail set in the studio and Saratkumar was busy in the fight scene. Film: Dosth.
Sarath came to his chair after the shot was Okayed, drying of with a towel. ‘Really, I have not acted in a stunt scene this long,’ he said. ‘It is the sixth day today. But it is good in this summer to get drenched in this studio rain, even if I have to perform hard for the scene.’
‘I was the hero in ‘Aranmanaik Kaavalkaaran,’ the first film made by Lakshmi Movie Makers. And I acted in several of their movies thereafter. They do not hesitate to spend any amount. Money just flows like water. See what I mean,’ Sarath pointed to the rain pouring from under the roof. Yes. It must have cost a fortune this hot summer scarcity for water to get so much water to make it pour heavily for the camera. Money flowed in the form of water indeed.
We then moved on to director S. A. Chandrasekar. ‘This is my 55th movie,’ he beamed. It took four years for me to evolve the story of this movie. It will be another offbeat movie like ‘Saatchi’ and ‘Needhikku Dhandanai. The legal problems that I am portraying will be quite sensational and will be spoken about all around. It was Sarath who played the villain in Seetha, directed by me earlier. I had him in mind for Dosth for he was most suited for the character. I was so happy when Lakshmi Movie Makers told me that they could get his call sheets.
The story revolves round the problems created by separation of friends. Raghuvaran and Prakashraj play the friends of Sarath. The fight sequences are designed by Jaguar Thangam. Deva scores music and cinematographer Vijay Milton cans the shots.
Abirami was not in the sets, as she was not needed for the shots. Pity that we could not see her. We walked back heartbroken and crestfallen, unable to see her. Hope Abirami will give her darshan soon.
