Rambha: I’m still a child at heart

RambhaThough Rambha debuted with the Tamil film Uzhavan  opposite Prabhu, she had to migrate to her home state Andhra Pradesh to be acknowledged a star. However, she soon returned to Chennai to conquer lost ground. Her skirt-flying number a la Marilyn Monroe in Ullathe Allitha  created a rage and made her an essential prop for most films. Her attempt at change of image by doing a deglamourised role in Desiyageetham  unfortunately did not bear fruit and she is now back to square one. But the going is certainly tougher this time around with competition from newcomers like Simran and Jothika. Left with only a few films in hand, she has reportedly announced her plan to campaign and serve the TDP. Indiainfo.com met the actress for her version.

Excerpts:

Are you going to contest as a TDP candidate in Andhra Pradesh?
I was asked to canvass for TDP and beyond that I am not concerned with politics. What will happen to me in future I can’t say now.

RambhaYou are sounding like Rajanikanth.
(Laughs) What else to say?

You are known to be very serious on the sets. Why is it so?
I don’t know. I am basically an introvert. While shooting for Hindi films my heroes rag me a lot as they are all very outgoing type. At home I am different though. I play and joke with everybody and even with small kids who live next door. I am still a child at heart and miss my school life. I was good at painting and have won prizes. I was on the plump side and so I did not take part in any sports like races, which I loved. I have kept all the dairies I wrote in school, my school uniforms, my little bits of papers, photos etc. All are part of my prized possessions. In school I was a good student but if anyone scolded me in public, I would lose my temper.

Is marriage on the cards?
Not yet, but yes, at some time I will have to marry. It’s a serious matter.

RambhaHow should your husband be?
He should understand me. I don’t want to marry anyone from the film field because I think two people from the same profession can’t be compatible and it can also lead to rivalry. I have never seen my father and mother quarrel and my brother, sister and myself never fight. So, my hubby should not fight with me and should earn enough to support me. I don’t want the public to think that like every other actress who marries and divorces by year-end, I too will divorce. Also, I want to be a good mother to my children.

Who is your favourite male hero?
Rajiv Gandhi, though I could never meet him.

What about your co-stars in Hindi films??
What about them? They speak in Hindi and the heroes in Chennai speak in Tamil (giggles).

What do you feel about the Jothika wave?
When I came on the scene Meena, Naghma, Khushboo and Roja were present but did they all vanish? Similarly, I won’t vanish because of Jothika.
