We enter into the theatre with a longing that Arun kumar should
get a new lease of life at least through this move. While we
return, we are a little disappointed. We are let to think that the
direction ought to have been more clear and serious.
This film also speaks about love without seeing. The suspense has
been maintained from the start to the finish. But certain scenes,
which are irrelevant to the main story line, cause us irritation.
This is the film's shortcoming.
Arun kumar is a student in the college of Arts. He wants to raise
money in order to meet the expenses connected with the surgical
treatment to his mother. A girl comes forward to contribute her
mite in helping out his cause. She also expresses her love for his
through the pager. Arun kumar evinces interest in her and sets out
searching for her. But, in as much as she suffers from an
inferiority complex about the back of beauty, the girl does not
appear before him. As she does not want to disappoint him, she
avoids showing her face to him and commits suicide. This forms the
storyline of the film.
One can heap praise on the director just for the unique technique
of not showing the heroine at all, from scene one to the very last
scene. No doubt, he is an avant garde director in this aspect.
This technique has been handled for the first time in a Tamil
Movie. Well Done!
Arun kumar may have derived satisfaction and delight from this
film, for sure. He sparkles as a fighter and dancer. He has stayed
fine progress as an actor too. But he had to do all these
wonderful things with an unattractive backdrop that does not prove
fruitful. The final scene is saddening and disappointing to him
and us alike. It is a big upset indeed.
Meena and Rambha have been utilized for the song and dance
sequence alone. They don't make any special impact on the
audience. Even the character, "Thiloththi", who does not
show even her face, makes more lasting impression on our mindsets
than these two actresses.
The talents of Anandraj, Charlie, Dhamu and Balaji have gone
waste.
The debutant music director Jai has not make a good beginning. He
has not make any inroads into our hearts.
The character of 'Thiloththi' alone has been sketched out well.
The sentiment for mother does not fit in well with the general run
of the story. The screenplay is not clear. The scenes shown do not
compel our attention yet the mind shudders to accuse the director
wholly.
He has to be congratulated for having hit an entirely new idea.
The one line story is simply grand. But the director has slipped
down while giving the full shape to it. We request director
Indirakumar to be more painstaking in his subsequent ventures.
Anbudan - Yearnings and disappointments.
