It is the product of P.Vasu, the director known for 'Pattu' titles. When all is
said and done, at the end of the film, the movie lover who enters into the
theatre expecting a bonanza returns with his head hung in despair. P.Vasu has
not taken any worthwhile steps to win the hearts of his fans through his skills.
The story line:
The elder brother is a singer. The younger brother is a happy-go-lucky type of
person. By chance, the younger brother has to sing on a pulpit. People are
impressed with the singing ability of the younger one. They start adoring him.
Slowly the elder brother loses his fan following. The elder brother starts
hating his younger brother out of sheer jealousy. He hatches a plot to bring
about the downfall of his blood brother. But, by the quirk of fate, he himself
falls a victim to the machination worked by him. At long last, the younger
brother teaches his elder brother's son to sing, before quitting the field of
music.
This film is the re-make of Malayalam film, 'Bharatham'. Therefore the
screenplay seems to be easily conceived. The film totally relies on the
histrionic feats of its actors. However the final scenes of the film has
definite polish and gleam. Otherwise,........
Karthik glitters throughout the film. His character as a rowdy has not been
sketched well. When he turned into a songster, his character becomes a bundle of
emotions and assumes importance. Karthik has given a sparkling performance. This
film has increased his fame to a great extent. The audience exclaims at his
dazzling feats as an actor.
Malavika is cynosure of attraction. She moves about glamorously. She sings
dances loves and woos the hero. For how long, she would be running after heroes
to wing their hands?
P.Vasu has established him as an actor abounding in talents. His eyes are highly
expressive. He simply dazzles as and when he grows envious over the mounting
fame of his younger brother. Kudos to Vasu, the actor.
Vivek relieves us from the tedium to a considerable extent. He is one of the
plus points of the film. A separate track has been given especially for his
comedy. His style mikes well with A.R.Rehman's guise.
Deva? He has not added salt to the pep in songs. Whether, the change of the
films' name from "Thmbikku Oru Pattu' to 'cheenu' has any bearing to this
effect? But, one has to acknowledge the merits of the background music. After
all, scoring good background music is hit wont.
cheenu - Emotional upsurge
