Singeetham Srinivasa has is one of the titans in the firmament of
south Indian film directors. He has recently directed the film,
'Little John'. (Production: Media Dreams).
Media Dreams have bravely decided to make a film with graphics as
its backbone. But they have failed to select a suitable story base
by doing which they might have carved out a decent success. But,
as it is, the final product offers disappointment and disgust.
Bently Mitchum comes down from a overseas country to do some
research on the deity Mookkuthi Amman (Quite a forgettable
character). Meanwhile, the nose ring has been robbed away by some
unknown person and the policeman arrest Bentley. Bentley however
manages to give a slip to Police and escapes away. The police make
a frantic search for the foreigner. Intervenes a God man at this
juncture protect Bentley from the hot chase of the police by
turning the innocent man into a miniature figure.
The rest of the story reveals how Bentley and the nose-ring are
saved.
For whom is the film intended? For the grown-ups or for the
children? The confusion is apparent. But the film stands out
unique amidst the other films which bank upon sheer valor and
violence. Media dreams deserve congratulations on their effective
subtle and clever usage of graphics for the success of the film.
There is no shortcoming in the acting talents of Bentley. He has
shown difference in facial expressions. He deserves kudos.
Camera plays extensively on the body of Jothika. She does not have
enough scope to show his acting prowess. Her enthusiasm is high in
song-dance sequences.
The characters donned by Prakashraj nowadays lack his usual gloss.
They are conceived well but executed in a bad shape in the final
analysis. It is all much ado about nothing. Things start with a
bang and end as a whimper for him! It is superb make-up that he
wears. Yet the director has thought it fit to show him just once
in 45 minutes on the screen. Hence the character donned by
Prakashraj falls by the wayside.
Inspector Nazar entertains amusingly. His performance can be
Okayed.
Mani Sharma has set the music. The music abounds in western
flavor. Only Michael Jackson and Madonna have not been used as
singers in this film But the fragrance of western music pervades
throughout. Sujatha's voice is soaked in honey. The audience will
ever remember her rendering of the song "Paadavaa"
throughout their life span.
The excellence in graphics effects and the imagination
cinematography of Thiru are the high lights of the film. The
pooling together of Mookkuthi Amman temple with the hill and the
cascade speaks high of the thinking faculty of the photography.
Thiru's picturisation is uniformly good all through the film.
There is no clue about the venue where the incidents in the story
happen. Much is left to make out and imagine about the background
of the story line. The screenplay does not provide for many scenes
that inculcate interest in the minds of viewers. Hence the
weakness of the film in parts.
Little John - "Little" entertainment.
