The very same team which had made a not so big budget film earlier under the title, "Budget Padmanabhan" and scored a sizeable victory with that venture, has united once again to make this movie, "Middle Class Madhavan". But this time they have landed themselves in hot waters by dishing out a confusing, confounding story in the name of providing a different kind of comedy.

The title misleads us to conceive a story with another dimension. Director T.P.Gajendran has a fine central theme for the story in Hollywood style. But alas! he has weakened the screenplay for no reason but the comedy comes handy to him. The high-class comedy gives him and the fans happiness alike, as an end-result.

When Vivek and Vadivelu start to spin their comic gimmicks under the broad outlines, 'before six o'clock' and 'after six o'clock', right from the initial dialogue, 'Even this dress has been rented out for 'Jai Hanuman' serial!", the audiences throw away their care for any pithy and meaningful story to the winds and jump joyfully at two chances of witnessing some hilarious comedy to have a hearty laugh. Vivek and Vadivelu succeed in drawing the attention of the audiences wholly towards them.

The story can be told in once sentence. The newlyweds, Prabhu and Abirami could not enjoy their married bliss as their first night gets postponed. How did they jump over the hurdles and embrace each other within the confines of four walls unseen and unheard by other persons. The screenplay is strung together through certain scenes that lead the couple towards happy union.

The mustard seeds may be small in size but they won't lack in taste. ("Kadugu Siruthalum Karam Pogathu!"). There is salt in the pep dished out by Prabhu. His capacity for acting is unquestionable. He has played his part pretty well. He heaves a sigh beautifully, with a dimple on his cheek. Quite handsome to look at!

Abirami has a charming face. She has the apt expressions on her face that enable her to reflect various feelings of the heart. She has lived up to her potential.

Vadivelu and Vivek take the lion's share in the film's frames. There is a virtual fireworks of fun fare provided by the triumphant two some. The film is strewn with high sounding crackers, small and big, through and through. The audiences are easily carried away by the comedy by those two comedians.

Delhi Ganesh emotes very well giving a spirited display of histrionic talent as he goes to spy over the activities of Vadivelu.

The music has been provided by Dina of 'Siththi' fame. He has strived his level best to bring out his capacities in no uncertain terms. But the background of the storyline has let him down. Hence his discomfiture. Re-recording is O.K.

Usually low budget movies like this one would be poor in editing and Cinematography. But, thank God, these two aspects have highlighted the value of this film's story to the extent possible.

Director T.P.Gajendran shows his head at three places unnecessarily. He keeps track with the story until the interval. Afterwards he gives excessive doses of Comedy and hinders the smooth flow of the story and leaves the fans saturated.

In the final analysis,
Middle Class Madhavan - Only Comedy is his strength.

Wow... Oops...
  • There is a celebration of joy and jubilation in the comedy feast offered by the duo, Vivek and Vadivelu.

  • Prabhu's histrionic powers

  • Comedy, however wholesome it is, eats into the vitals of the Central story. As the Comedy takes the upper hand, the story is forgotten and falls flat.
